Project Success—Purple Loosestrife Decline

In July 2003, the Muskegon Conservation District and Mona Lake Watershed Council partnered to release the Galerucella beetle, which feeds on the invasive purple loosestrife plant. It generally takes 2-3 years to see an impact on the plants. We have noted a decline in loosestrife plants around the lake so we know the beetles are successfully migrating.
